So, after many years of trying to figure out what our family likes to do together, is good at, and is, well...cheap, we finally figured it out!
We bought bikes, but it's hard for the little ones to keep up, we can't afford a boat, and the whole "small children near the water thing" ruled out water sports, and since none of us is going to win a spelling bee, bea, bie, beigh? a chess tournament, or tennis match, we found the one thing that is generally free, fun, challenging and let's us take in some pretty awesome surroundings. And after all, we live where there are tons of opportunities!
So, hiking it is!
And this summer we did a lot of it!
This is our second year of hiking Devils Head. We decided to make it a tradition every year before school starts, it's only about 5 miles round trip, and it has an amazing old fire lookout at the top.
It's actually TOTALLY FREAKY! And not my favorite place to be while carrying a wiggly two year old! But we did it. This is Danny, Baylee and Maddie coming down. They didn't think twice about it.
Me, on the other hand, I have a hard time with the sheer, cliff drop offs on the back side.

Another hike we did over the summer was in Estes Park. We stayed there over the 4th of July with Danny's family. On the 5th (Happy late birthday Beth!) we hiked in Rocky Mountain National Forrest. Again, beautiful, and freezing! The 5th of July and there was snow up there and it was probably 50 degrees! But that made hiking a lot easier without the heat!
We went about 6 miles with the kids, then Me, Danny and the Boys literally ran on another trail to see some water falls while the girls huddled under blankets in the car.

How fun... we've actually gotten into the biking thing lately. Logan rides a Trail-A-Bike that hooks on the back of Peni's bike and I pull Lonnie in a bike trailer. We have to actually keep up with Livai and Lia.
But we will have to add hiking to our list. I am thinking it will be a fall activity because summers here are way too stinking hot!!! Seriously It's 10 pm and my AC is still going

I want to see some pictures of the view from Devil's Head and this "drop off" you're talking about. Until then it doesn't exist.
